Parents and Friends

Parent Group and Fundraising

As a sub-committee of the governing council, the Parents and Friends fundraising group has been responsible for raising many thousands of dollars over the years to support improvement initiatives around the school. The fundraising group does regular lunch meal deals for kids, runs raffles, father’s and mother’s day stalls and supports special events such as discos, Sportsday, Flicks at the Flat and the Colour Run.

Recent contributions to the school through the fundraising group have been the supply and install of 3 water bubbler / drinking stations and they have also supported the provision of new play equipment for the school. For more information about how to get involved, please contact the school and we’ll put you in touch with the fundraising team.

Playgroup

We are very excited to provide a fun and educational playgroup in McLaren Flat for our local young children and their families. Our playgroup operates on Friday mornings from 9.30am until 11.00am in our OSHC room. This group supports families with pre-kindergarten children and provides a rich, inclusive, language rich and play focussed environment. We want to create a nurturing environment where the children will be free to play and challenge themselves. Our playgroup will have a focus on being outside in the natural world and allowing the children to explore and play with natural materials.

During the morning the children will have the opportunity to bake bread rolls for morning tea and eat together as a group.

The Playgroup Leader is Courtney Nesje. Courtney lives in McLaren Flat and is the mother of two boys. Courtney is educated in Children´s Services and has been working with young children for the past 17 years in Australia, London, Scotland and Norway. Her most recent working experience was in Norway at an outdoor preschool with their main focus being on nature, culture and health. Antje Woodrow, anopther experienced educator also supports the program. For more information about bookings and the sessions, contact the front office.

McLaren Flat PS Dad’s Group and The Fathering Project

McLaren Flat PS was the first school in South Australia to set up a Dad’s Group through the nationwide Fathering Project. The Fathering Project educates, connects and mobilises fathers and families to create brighter futures for children. We do this with research-based prevention and early intervention programs and resources that engage, inform, inspire, equip and support fathers, families, schools, corporates and community-based organisations. Our Dad’s Group here at the Flat holds events for Dads and Kids and sometimes just Dads throughout the year and aims to build strong connections between Dads and father figures, their kids and the school.
